Patriotic Colors Collage

This lesson begins with the introduction of a few flag-oriented art works by famous artists such as jasper Johns and Alexander Calder., followed by a mini-lesson on drawing freehand stars. The trick to this collage is that students can not recreate the U.S. flag.

 Pop Art Hearts

Artist Jim Dine has created many art works using hearts. These patterned hearts are inspired by his work. Students chose to use warm or cool colors on their hearts. They could choose whether to trace them or draw their own, and all hearts needed to be different.

Mixed-Media & Exploration

These creations happened on days when there was no formal lesson and students were invited to work on their own to create something unique and different, or to try something again that they had done before.
