Mondrian-Inspired Line Compositions

This lesson incorporates all the elements of design: line, shape, color, texture, pattern, and space. Students divide the paper with a few roughly perpendicular lines, fill three or four spaces with a pattern, then cut and glue black lines over their pencil lines.

  Four Square Patterns

This activity introduces the concept of unity in art work. Students were required to do four patterned squares using four different patterns with one color scheme OR one pattern with four different color schemes.

 Stylized People

The focus for this activity is the shape and movement of the human body. Students start by drawing ovals for all body parts, then trace around they outline and finally fill in the entire space with color or a pattern or lines.
