Fall Leaf Drawings

Students carefully observed actual leaves before starting these drawings, which use crayon and watercolor.

 Observation Drawing

One of the behaviors I emphasize with my students is careful looking; this is especially important when drawing from observation, For these drawings, students chose objects for their tables, then drew one object at a time, with attention to line, shape, contour, and pattern details.

People Observation Drawing

When teaching students to draw people, I encourage them to look carefully at shapes and contour lines of clothing, and the proportion of different body parts, such as legs to torso, or arms to legs. Then I tell them they never need to draw stick people again!
