working with shape and space (and a little color and texture)

Go to my art teaching blog, Creating Art With Kids, to read detailed directions for and comments about many of these lessons.

Tissue Paper Collages

These are pretty foolproof. One year we did hearts in February; another year, fall leaves in October. After a quick demonstration, the directions are simply to fill the space with color.

Snowflakes

I never get tired of watching young children make snowflakes. These were done in a center, taking two days. Day 1 was just the folding, with teacher help. Day 2 was the cutting and mounting.

Green Paper Sculptures

We did these in March, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Students learned how to make accordion folds, tubes, and other 3d features.
